About Nancy

Nancy Hilliard Joyce (b. 1972, Greenville, South Carolina) creates from her home studio in Concord, NC, where her work reflects a deep reverence for nature, time, and the wild. She layers fluid, atmospheric grounds with precise forms, often birds and botanicals, balancing organic movement with quiet structure.
Her mixed-media paintings incorporate gold leaf, graphite, collage, and hand-painted details in oils and acrylics. Each layer holds space for both the seen and unseen, inviting viewers to reflect on memory, connection, and place.
Nancy studied at the Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities, earned a BA in Art History from Wofford College, and an MA in Art Education from the University of New Mexico. She spent nearly a decade in Asheville’s River Arts District, later curating for The Grove Park Inn and boutique hotels across the Southeast, while completing large-scale commissions for public spaces.
An active philanthropist, Nancy supports environmental initiatives, women’s causes, and children in need, and serves on the boards of The Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities Foundation and The Cabarrus Arts Council. Her work has appeared in Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone, Southern Living, The Wall Street Journal, and House & Garden UK.
Collected in homes, hotels, offices, and airports worldwide, her paintings embody a grounded beauty and timelessness, all reminders of the stories we carry and the spaces we create for them in our lives.
