⚜️From afar it reads as a flowing abstract… cool blues, warm golds, soft movement. But as you step closer, thousands of tiny birds begin to emerge, each one hand-painted and in motion. A quiet rhythm reveals itself… part cloud, part current, part memory. There’s a kind of order here, a balance within the chaos, a beautiful ratio taking flight.I’ve shared ten different spaces—each one offering a unique perspective on how “The Great Divide” lives in a room. I’d love to know which one speaks to you most.

Painting them, one by one, quiets my mind in the same way. This piece began with sweeping layers of alcohol ink, but it’s the thousands of hand-painted birds that bring it to life, each one adding to the rhythm and movement.Where do you find calm in the chaos?

Spent the day in Asheville’s River Arts District

Spent the day in Asheville’s River Arts District @riverartsdistrictasheville checking in on the progress of eight incredible murals going up on Clingman Ave! I had the honor of bringing in three insanely talented artists—Ishmael @ishmaelbookart — Amar @amarstewartpaints and Trek @trek6 — to create something truly special for this space.These murals are part of Wyre, a new development that’s not just adding much-needed housing to Asheville but also bringing art, energy, and a sense of place to the community. It’s exciting to be working alongside an amazing team of developers and designers, helping shape a project that reflects the creative spirit of this city.Asheville is rising, and I’m so grateful to be part of it. There’s something special about revisiting a painting years later—especially one that still feels connected to the work I create today. I painted this piece nearly a decade ago, capturing a migration of birds over a South Carolina marsh. Standing here at the beach, seeing it again, I’m reminded of how certain themes—birds in flight, the passage of time, the rhythms of nature—have remained constant in my work.Even as my style evolves, that thread remains. Welcome to my studio! 🤗Swipe through for a little tour of my creative space—each corner has a purpose, and I love how they all come together to support different parts of my work.1️⃣ The book nook – By these bright windows, I sit and work on partially written and illustrated children’s books. The natural light here is perfect for quiet creativity.2️⃣ The standing station – This is where I stand to work with alcohol inks and other materials that need a flat surface. It’s a space for fluidity, movement, and a little bit of magic.3️⃣ The teaching table – This is where I host student classes and camps, guiding them through projects and creative exploration. Watching their ideas come to life here is one of my favorite things.4️⃣ The large-scale easel – When I’m working on bigger pieces, this is where I stand and paint. It’s where the boldest ideas take shape.5️⃣ The thinking chair – Sometimes, creativity needs space to breathe. This cozy spot is just for sitting, flipping through art books, or taking a moment to recharge.6️⃣ The light-filled space – With several windows, this area keeps my studio bright throughout the day. It’s a little reminder of how much I love working in natural light.My studio hasn’t always been this expansive and I’ve even worked from the kitchen table some years. Whether it’s the soft shadows of tallies or the subtle movement of an hourglass, light doesn’t just illuminate—it changes the story.The way light interacts with a piece of art is a reminder that time is always in motion, even when it seems still. ⏳🌟

A full-circle ⭕️ moment in the studio today—I picked up this commission piece I created over a decade ago! My client is now working with a designer and asked if I’d be willing to remove the varnish and update the painting with a more neutral palette. Absolutely.I know not every artist would take on a project like this, but I love the idea of revisiting past work and breathing new life into it. Art evolves, just like our spaces and tastes, and I want my collectors to be 1000% happy with the pieces they live with every day.I can already envision how beautiful this piece will be in the end—refreshed but still carrying the history of its original layers. Would you ever update a meaningful piece in your home to fit a new chapter?

I recently tried something different—using black

I recently tried something different—using black alcohol ink on a canvas board. My goal was to create a dandelion, a reoccurring theme in my work, but the process turned out to be more challenging than expected. I used 99% isopropyl alcohol to remove dried ink from the board, but it didn’t come off as easily as I’d hoped.Despite the difficulties, the end result was captivating. Still, this experiment confirmed that canvas boards and alcohol ink might not be the best match for my process. I’m always learning and evolving, and I’m grateful for the unexpected beauty that sometimes comes from these creative trials.What are your thoughts on experimenting with new techniques?⚜️
